The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) (N10/1) receives CAN messages with information on the vehicle speed. If the vehicle speed stops below a value of 5 km/h, the SAM switches the windshield wiper back one speed stage. If wiper stage 2 is selected it is switched to stage 1. If stage 1 is selected the intermittent wiping function is switched on. If the intermittent wiping function is switched on the automatic speed reduction increases the intermittent time by 1.5 seconds.

When the speed increases to a value above 8 km/h the SAM switches back to the previously selected stage. The automatic speed reduction function can be programmed out with the HHT by means of version coding.
